To get married in Las Vegas, the first thing couples need to do is to get their marriage license.

In order to do that each of them will need a valid, governmental photo ID or driver’s license. Unlike some states, Las Vegas weddings do not require birth certificates. And no blood tests are needed. There is no required waiting period before using your license and it is good for up to one year from date of issuance.

If you have been married before and divorced, have a copy of the divorce decree with you. And if you have ever changed your name for any reason, bring that documentation. 

Next thing to do is to go on down to the Clark County Marriage License Bureau located in the Justice Center at 201 East Clark Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada 89101. It’s on Clark Avenue at the corner of 3^rd Street. Years ago, it use to be open 24 hours, but that is no longer the case. It now opens at 8am and closes at midnight. And it is open every single day, including holidays. Getting help there is relatively quick and it should only take about 20 minutes to get things done. 

You ought to get in and out quickly, depending upon how many other couples showed up. Be aware that certain special days and events create longer waits in line. Valentine’s Day and the last few days of the calendar year, for example. Other things like repetitive and easy to remember dates attract a higher volume. 02/02/2022 was really busy.

How much does a marriage license cost?

Marriage licenses in Clark County currently cost $102 and can be purchased with a credit card, travelers check, cashier’s check, money orders, or cash. Personal checks are not accepted.

Now you can apply for your marriage license online. Notice, you can APPLY. You cannot get a marriage license without appearing in person at the bureau. During the pandemic there were occasional reports of difficulties with applying online.

You, of course, do not need a marriage license to renew vows or to enjoy a ceremony of commitment. You can, however, purchase a vow renewal certificate for $21 from the Clark County Marriage License Bureau, kind of a nice touch.
